Clinical Observation on Korean Hemorrhagic Fever


Abstract
A clinical observation was made on eighty eight cases of Korean Hemorrhagic Fever
who were admitted to the Chungnam National University Hospital over a period of 5
years, from Jan. 1973 to Dec. 1977 and following results were obtained.
1. The seasonal incidence was predominent from October to December (87.5%).
2. The geographic distribution of the patient was considered to most frequent in Chung Nam province (67.6%) and secondly in Chung Buk province (28.4%).
3. The peak age incidence was in the fourth decade and majority of patient was in the second to fifth decade. The male to female ratio was 2.4 : l.
4. The most of patients were admitted on the oliguric stage of the disease (72.7%).
5. The clinical manifestation on admission were eye injection, petechiae, fever, abdominal pain, vomitting, flushing face, headache and myalgia in the order of frequency
6. A considerable number of patient showed bleeding tendencies such as eye injection (88.6¡Æc), petechia (85.2%) and epistaxis (13.6%).
7. The mortality rate during hospitalization was 13.6%. The cause of death were renal failure, pulmonary edema, shock, massive gastrointestinal bleeding and suggestive cerebral hemorrhage.
